On a quiet September evening in Santa Fe, bizMIX teams brought the house down by wowing their judges and discovering they’d earned thousands of dollars in cash and prizes.

Since March 2018, bizMIX teams have been preparing their businesses, starting with their applications. Ideas and teams were hand-selected by a committee for acceptance into the bizMIX Business Accelerator. From May 2018 – September 2018, bizMIX teams have had mentor nights on marketing, financials and pitching, and they have endured two wild and woolly pitch contests. Their hard work culminated in building a business plan and final presentation deck to present in front of business experts. These expert judges were wowed beyond their wildest dreams and gave away $20,000 to teams of the highest caliber.

bizMIX awarded a total of $60,000 in cash and prizes through the program. Here’s what everyone took home:

Purified Remains – Justin Crowe & Kimberly Corbitt, Won the 2018 bizMIX Grand prize of $5,000 in cash! Purified Remains has introduced a new form of human remains that addresses the experiential shortcomings of cremated remains by creating a solid, stone-like material that is clean, convenient, and beautiful.

Earth Traveler Teardrop Trailers – Angel Irlanda, won $4,500 in cash and MAKE Santa Fe 6-month membership for a total prize value of $4,890. Irlanda developed a strong, safe and attractive 4-person teardrop trailer and extremely lightweight camper that’s under 300 pounds and can be towed with any small car anywhere around the world.

Mabel’s Table – Holly Tunkel & Diane Hanson, won $3,000 in cash, plus a Santa Fe Chamber of Commerce membership, and a Santa Fe Green Chamber of Commerce membership worth for a total prize worth $3,975. Mable’s Table is a small batch, made in New Mexico, table linens business. We bring fashion, interior design, color, culture & spirit to the table.

Bow Wow Haus – Luca Marino Baker, won $3,000 in cash and a Santa Fe Business Incubator Affiliate client membership for six (6) months valued at $2,400. In addition, they were awarded $250 in cash prizes for incidentals for a total prize value of $5,650. Bow Wow Haus is a design and manufacturing company based in Santa Fe, NM specializing in stylish and functional Barkitecture. Bow Wow’s first signature barkitectural product is a well designed, high end, locally hand-crafted doggy door. Offering style and options, BWH doggy doors will accentuate your home while your pet will love using it.

Bow Wow Haus – Luca Marino Baker, won $3,000 in cash and a Santa Fe Business Incubator Affiliate client membership for six (6) months valued at $2400.00. In addition, they were awarded $250.00 in cash prizes for incidentals for a total prize value of $5,650. Hopper + Sun – Roxane Hopper, won $2,500 in cash, a Santa Fe Green Chamber of Commerce membership, and Santa Fe Chamber of Commerce membership for a total value of $3,075. Hopper + Sun is a pop-up flower shop and subscription flower service that offers handcrafted bouquets as receive weekly arrangements for your home and/or business as well as unique cacti and succulents. Hopper offers local, New Mexican grown plants and flowers throughout the growing season.

Construction House Art School & Projects – Tom & Amy Miller, won a $2,000 cash prize, Green Chamber Membership, Hutton Broadcasting radio campaign and consultation for a total of $3,175 in cash and prizes. Construction House Art School & Projects is an interdisciplinary learning environment focused on a return to structure coupled with personal inspiration. We are committed to a conversation based in formal art and design principles. Construction House serves adults and children by delivering classes, workshops, private lessons and artist consulting.

Fungus AmongUs – Matthew Moya, Justin Armijo, Craig Moya; won $750 cash MIX Factor (awarded by the MIX team) prize and 3-months free dry goods space in Chomp! worth $2,250. Fungus AmongUs is locally grown mushrooms. They are committed to growing the finest quality specialty mushrooms using sustainable practices and want to improve the health of the planet and its people.

Legendary Elegance – Dominique Garcia, won $750 MIX Factor award, Ditch the Box Studios award of a 1.5 minute video production valued at $3000, and Simply Social four-hour social media training for a total value of $4,750. Legendary Elegance specializes in handmade skincare products such as soaps, lip balms, body balms and more. Our community commitment is to donated a bar of soap to our local homeless shelters for every soap loaf made.


In-Kind Prize Winners

La Villa Real Brewing Cooperative – Mateo Miller & Zion Miller, won a Hutton Broadcasting radio campaign and consultation and 2.5 hours of tax advisory support from Stauss Tax Services worth $1,425. La Villa Real Brewing Cooperative is a member owned co-operative brewery in Santa Fe.

UNUM Magazine – Tricia English WINS a Ditch the Box Studios promo/fundraising video to a Badass “Womenpreneur” valued at $3,000. UNUM Magazine is globally dedicated to highlighting and celebrating women of diverse backgrounds, by sharing their personal stories and achievements. UNUM aspires to raise awareness of extraordinary women to impact, inspire and build a sense of community and connection both locally and worldwide, to show that despite what divides us, as one, we are stronger together.

Garden Lore Designs – Lauren Ayer, won a MAKE Santa Fe 6-month membership, Green Chamber of Commerce membership, a $30 Bourbon Grill gift card for perfect attendance for a total prize value of $595. Garden Lore Designs offers simple, modern quilt patterns inspired by and for nature. 10% of all proceeds will be donated to non-profits whose work helps preserve endangered plant species.

Nomada Goods Co. – Miguel Villalpando, won coffee date with Mark Johnson, a Green Chamber membership, a 1- hour consultation with a CPA from Barraclough & Associates for total prizes worth $2,425. Nomada Goods is an import/export company that sources and distributes specialty heirloom foods, artisanals, and unique and endemic products Giving exposure to global small farmers, artisans and producers to the national and international marketplace through education, networking and guided trade compliance.

StandFit – Russell Moore, won a Green chamber membership and coffee consultation with Vince Kadlubek worth $2,175. Standfit seeks to positively impact the health of workers everywhere. This patented standing assistance device counters the negative effects of a sedentary lifestyle by encouraging and facilitating standing in the workplace or at home.

Smiles for Miles – Cheryl Kennedy, won a Green Chamber Membership, 2.5 hours of tax advisory support from Stauss Tax Services, a $30 Bourbon Grill gift card for perfect attendance, and a Santa Fe Business Incubator Affiliate client membership for six (6) months and $250 in cash for a total prize value of $2,400. Smiles for Miles is a non-profit Studio and Gallery space, accommodated for disabled young adults, that focuses on their individual artistic strengths to develop marketable arts & crafts and gives these exceptional young adults a venue to interact with and educate the public while selling their work.

Adventures for the Community Minded Ecotourist (ACME) – Tamara Prochorchik, won a Santa Fe Green Chamber of Commerce membership, and a Santa Fe Chamber of Commerce membership worth for a total value of $575. ACME brings folks on organic excursions focused on the diverse traditions of life in and around Santa Fe. Our aim is to create a deeper understanding and appreciation of the places and people of Northern New Mexico while getting tourist dollars directly into homes and communities.

Select teams won an additional $15k in Hutton Broadcasting exposure on the radio waves around Santa Fe. We are so proud of these winners and can’t wait to see what they will do next!
